I always explain why the student is receiving the award in detail, and really want each student to feel valued and recognised for the positive way in which they contributed to our class. 👉 Award certificates in English & as Gaeilge on my website.

I was always a 'scrapbooker' and a 'photo album' kid. I love to have physical memories to look back at, and so naturally I love the idea of class memory books. I created the memory book templates as I really wanted my students to reflect upon and record a variety of elements of their school life - some that they may not find interesting right now, but that will serve as a time capsule in years to come. 👉 Booklets available on my website in English & as Gaeilge.

I love chatting with the class at the end of the year about all the things that stood out to them and that they remember - it's often not the things you think of! 1️⃣ Order a keyring kit (mine cost €6.90 from Amazon and had enough for 30 keyrings - shared in last image, you can usually get them in the likes of Mr Price too)

2️⃣ Create a design for each student with their name, an image that you associate with them (could be a favourite animal, book character, food, sport, etc), and three things that are awesome about them.

⭐ The template I created was on Canva and I can share it with you for free if you would like to use it. I know every second is like gold dust at this time of year 😅 Just comment KEYRING below and I will get it to you 😘 👇

I have been doing this lesson for a few years now inspired by the @cassie_stephenz 'How to draw a bubble print snorkeler selfie' video on YouTube.

Always a hit ✨

My favourite way to do the bubble printing after a few attempts:
Mixture = 1 btl blue food colouring, good squirt dish soap, 300mls water in a small bowl. Have students blow the bubbles through a straw and place their page over the bubbles section by section 🫧

1. Draw your portrait inspired by underwater photos and artwork. Use the video to support certain parts such as drawing snorkel shape etc, but leave as open as possible.
2. Trace over pencil with sharpie
3. Colour with crayon
4. Bubble print

Father's Day 💙 This is a lovely alternative to a standard father's day card - requires little materials and is nice and easy!

I found a few versions of these online, but just winged it instead of buying a template. If you would like the steps for this card just leave a comment below 🥰👇

✨ Always important: think about your class context to make sure it's appropriate to celebrate/draw attention to fathers day, some years it will be and some years it won't. Classrooms should celebrate all kinds of families and also need to support children who these days can be very difficult for.

Delighted to get my results this morning and have passed the first year of my Masters 🥳🙌

Going back to college to do a Masters was something I always wanted to do. I know many people continue straight from the BEd into a Masters now, but it wasn't really the 'done thing' when I was in college.

I have always been interested in the area of Gaeilge + Dyslexia, having taught in a Gaelscoil for years and having regularly come up against the "my child has been diagnosed with Dyslexia, should we move them to an English medium school?" question. It is always something I wanted to learn more about, as I never felt informed enough to answer that question.

And so, I chose the MEd in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) in DCU. The course thus far has really exceeded my expectations and has provided deep learning not only in the area of Dyslexia, but also in literacy instruction and intervention. It has been thought provoking, inspiring and will have a profound impact on how I meet the needs of learners in my future classrooms.

That said, it was a challenging year, and I will admit found it more difficult returning to academia than I thought I would. Nonetheless, I am thrilled to have passed the year, and while I will enjoy the few months 'off', I am looking forward to my second year and what it will bring!! 🥳🥳

For me these maths boards are a GAME CHANGER when it comes to teaching multiplication and division. Tried and tested for years in third/fourth class, and the difference in using these is so obvious when it comes to the child's understanding of the operations.

I use these for both multiplication and division. We use these a lot at the beginning of both concepts and then maybe 1 day a week for a quick revision throughout the rest of the year. Students will eventually find and gravitate towards the strategy that they prefer. I use them in dry-wipe pockets which you can get in most school supplies shops and on Amazon.

☝️This is a great example of a class teacher choosing specific foclóir from my Gaeilge resources as a focus for her Gaeilge lessons on Bia.

You can see she chose a total of 18 words and 1 question/answer. This is what was appropriate for her students in her particular context - Gaelscoil, Rang 1. Hence why there is an absence of more basic foclóir - úll, oráiste, bainne, uisce, etc.

📣 My resource packs include WAY too many foclóir agus frásaí FOR A REASON - to provide you with teacher agency over what you teach through the téama. It allows you to ensure you are not re-teaching but building on prior learning, to provide a sufficient level of challenge, to choose words that you may feel are of more relevance or benefit, to look at a téama through a particular lens if you wish (for example Bia - you might choose to focus on Bricfeasta only) and ultimately to steer your lessons in the way your students will benefit most.

It is an amazing resource to have access to in the senior classes, particularly in terms of vocabulary development, comprehension skills and also to explore some grammatical structures/tenses.

This is a Gaeilge newsletter that is published online weekly on the Leigh Leat website. It is free, easy to access and can be printed or displayed for your students. Each week it contains new, topical and short news bulletins in simple Gaeilge with accompanying images.

It is an amazing resource to have access to in the senior classes, particularly in terms of vocabulary development, comprehension skills and also to explore some grammatical structures/tenses.

This is a helpful and well known mnemonic to help students remember which letter combinations to use when applying an urú!

🤔 I never recommend using English as part of your Gaeilge lessons, but having spent a number of lessons explicitly teaching the rules, I have used this mnemonic myself in the past with a class that was really struggling to retain the letter combinations. It definitely helped.

💌 If anyone would like a free copy of these posters, I can send them to you. You could potentially display one, or print multiple per A4 page and have students stick them in the back of their Gaeilge copy to reference. Just pop a comment below and I will send them over! 🥰

You can have lots of fun with this téama and it can be a good one for keeping senior students engaged at this time of year.

Along with teaching the foclóir agus frásaí, here's some other ideas to get some fun and engaging mileage of these themes in the summer term...

📺 An Teilifís - Smaointí Eile 🤔
- Explore their favourite scannán, clár teilifíse, or aisteoir through comhrá and scríbhneoireacht activities.
- Film a variety of short TV shows in groups - write the script, practice, record, combine, write the amchlár and have a viewing party.
- Create a short movie as Gaeilge using stop motion Write the script, create the stop motion, share.
- Agallamh beirte - one student as an interviewer and the other as a celebrity. Script, practice, show/record.

👩‍💻 Teicneolaíocht - Smaointí Eile 🤔
- Explore their favourite aipeanna, cluichí ríomhaireachta, cainéal YouTube through comhrá and scríbhneoireacht activities.
- Write a 'Blag Ranga - plan a variety of sections and pupils working in small groups, publish for parents/other classes.
- Write a léirmheas or treoir for a video game.
- Prepare and record a podchraoladh - small groups working on different sections, write a script, record and listen back. Share with parents/other classes.
- Integrate with tech resources (scratch, beebots, Minecraft classroom) and create something as Gaeilge.
