This is a great Maths lesson where students are measuring length/height and perfect for this term too ☀️

I have done this lesson for the past few years, however it is not my original idea. I spotted it initially somewhere online and adapted it to suit my class 🥰

How I order teaching the briathra Gaeilge and why 🤔👇

This is my favourite approach, that I have tried and tested over many years in senior classes. We explicitly explore the verbs and tenses as part of 'gramadach' lessons, rather than learning a verb or two a week. As always, you need to find an approach that works for you 🥰

Questions welcome in comments 👇

1️⃣ An t-Ainm Briathartha (ag rith, ag ól...)
They need verbs to communicate efficiently, teaching them a variety of verbs is a good place to start and ensuring they understand the verb meaning is key. This also allows them to communicate in three tenses temporarily with the simple structure of Bhí mé X, Tá mé X, Beidh mé X

2️⃣ Briathra neamhrialta in root form (abair, beir, bí...)
Having the concept of the 11 verbs that don't follow the normal grammatical tense structures will be very helpful as you move on to teaching the tenses. Teach these so that they are familiar with them understand their meaning.

3️⃣ Aimsir Chaite - neamhrialta (dúirt, rug, bhí...)
We tend to communicate a lot in past tense such as telling news, recounting experiences, etc. Similarly many reading comprehensions and texts are written in the past tense so I always choose to start with AC. I start with the irregular verbs as this tends to ease confusion around rules when you get to briathra neamhrialta. Just teaching them as verbs that need to be remembered and learned as they don't follow the rules.

4️⃣ Aimsir Chaite - rialta (chuir, scríobh...)
Then moving onto the regular verbs and teaching them by applying the rules that apply to the A.C . This emphasises that you don't have to learn these 'off by heart' once you know the rules. Depending on class level I may teach some of all conjugations (mé/tú/sé/sí...)

5️⃣ Aimsir Fháistineach - neamhrialta (beidh, rachaidh...)
Again I start with the irregular verbs as this tends to ease confusion around applying rules when you get to the AF briathra neamhrialta.

⛪ Sistine Chapel & Michelangelo inspired art 🎨

This was a fun one! The class was full of giggles but also really enjoyed the challenge.

🎨 Explore images of the Sistine chapel ceiling artwork in terms of what they observe and notice (VTS)

🎨 Think-pair-share discussion how the artwork might have been created. Discuss the myth that Michelangelo painted the ceiling while lying down - do we think that was possible? 🤔💭.

🎨 Explore Michelangelo as an artist, look at some other samples of his work

🎨 Try out painting while lying down by taping pages to the underneath of desks 😅 Organising paint was a little trickier, I tried to do one between every 2/3. Students could draw first or just jump straight into painting.

🎨 Gallery walk to observe the artwork of others & discussion on the process.

When we gave this method a try, we decided that it wasn't so easy... but lots of fun! 🤩

🌕🚀👨‍🚀 I'm sure many of you are exploring the theme of space or the moon as a result of the recent Artemis ll lunar mission. This is a nice art lesson I did last year with my class 👇

⭐ I gave pupils a planet template that I found online for free on childhoodmagic.com

⭐ I put out paint and sponges and they sponge-painted their planets. I had images of the planets on the IWB for inspiration.

⭐ They added the orbit circles using white pencil/crayon and white splashes of paint to the black background using white paint.

⭐ Once dry they cut out their planets and glued them onto their background.

🚫✋ What would I do different now to make it better aligned to the visual arts curriculum - more process focused and experimental:
1. Remove template - no need!
2. Focus on exploring textures and colours using photos of the planets as a stimulus using a variety of tools. Recreating the planets - almost as a warm and and a way to encourage experimenting.
3. Students create a planet of their own exploring with their own choice of textures and colours. They can also explore how they might create a solar system background. They can also name their planet.
4. Gallery walk to explore the artwork of each other

🐰 Easter Bunnies 🌸

Here is how we made our bunnies 👇

I came across this lesson on the @supersimpleofficial website 🥰

1️⃣ ✏️ I followed the steps from the website and drew out my own template, which I photocopied for everyone.

You could have students do this themselves but I wanted to save time. *Make sure to give the bottom of the bunny an angled base so it will stand.

2️⃣ 🎨 They painted their templates exploring with colours and textures (sponges, brushes, earbuds, forks)

3️⃣ ✂️ They cut out their templates and added pink to the ears and pink/black to the nose

4️⃣ 🐇 They assembled their bunny by gluing the parts together, adding googly eyes and some details with permanent marker

5️⃣ ☁️ Lastly they added a fluffy cotton ball tail

⭐Split your class on pairs/groups

⭐Give them a cuardach focal without the word bank

⭐ Hide cards around your school, each with one word they must find in their cuardach focal

⭐ Send your pupils out on their tóraíocht focal

The Seachtain na Gaeilge activity we didn't know we needed @gaelbhratach 👏 ⭐ 😍

The last one got me, because while I say donn (down), bonn (brown) and fonn (fown) in a rhyming way - I pronounce tonn (ton), so it threw me off completely 😂

You can find this on their YouTube channel, I have it linked in my bio for convenience! Use it at lunch time, in the morning, before home time, as a class competition, however you like 🤩 A nice bit of Gaeilge fun for the week that's in it ☘️💚

Fun but simple art lesson, steps below ⬇️

1. Cut out shamrock template from card (pupils could draw this, I sourced an outline from Google)

2. Hold the shamrock shape in the center of a piece of paper (and keep it there)

3. Fill the page in colourful watercolor paint

4. Remove the shamrock shape

☘️ St Patrick's Day art lesson for senior classes 🇮🇪

I found the tutorial for this on the @tracie_kiernan_art website stepbtsteppainting.net 🤩 and adjusted it slightly to suit my class.

We focused on painting skills primarily such as creating texture, shadow, and colour mixing. This was a nice challenge and different lens through which to explore this project.

They turned out really well and the students were delighted with the finished piece.
