🌿 Nature Mandalas 🌺

This is such a fab idea for the sunny weather (and if you have all the art stuff packed away for end of year 😉).

Take your class outside to make nature mandalas in small groups 🥹 I also gave each group a page with some examples (last slide).

*Disclaimer: in true Irish fashion, we ended up having to take this inside due to the weather 🙄 Ideally you would get to do it all outside & photograph the mandalas 🤞☀️

☀️ These are some MORE of my favourite end of year activities, that slot into the end of year madness easily and also help to end the year on a high 🧡

1️⃣ Pass the Plate ⚪
This is probably my FAVOURITE last day activity, I share it every year! Each student starts with a blank paper plate and writes their name in the middle - I always join in too. You begin by passing your plate on and receiving the plate of someone else. You write one positive thing about the person who owns the plate onto their plate. Teacher calls "pass" every 1 minute or so, and you continue to pass the plates in the same direction until eventually your plate finds its way back to you. It's such a special and uplifting way to end the year, and all you need is a pack of paper plates 🙌

2️⃣ How Well Do You Know Your Classmates ⁉️
We've seen lots of 'How well do you know your teacher' quizzes circulating, this is a nice fun spin on it. First you gather information from your students, then you use it to create a classmates quiz. It's super easy and great fun, I highly recommend it. ⭐ I have a super simple but perfect template that makes it even easier - includes everything you need. Comment below and I will send it straight to you! 👇 🥰

3️⃣ Our Year in Three Words 🩷
Pop on some nice reflective music, have a few minutes of chill and give out anonymous sticky notes. Students think of three words to sum up their year and write them down. It's a simplified journalling activity that helps them reflect. They can then be stuck on the whiteboard, or on the class door, or on a piece of poster paper for the class to read 🥹

4️⃣ Photo Slideshow 📸
I always gather all the photos from the year, pop them into Google Photos, put some good vibes music in the background and let the slideshow play. Again, it's nice to look back on all the things we've done and achieved together over the year - and spot how much they've grown and changed!

5️⃣ Classroom Concert 🎶
I love to do a bit of classroom karaoke and blitz through all the songs they've learned this year as a final hurrah 🥳 Really simple but encourage them to just give it socks and have fun!

I was always a 'scrapbooker' and a 'photo album' kid. I love to have physical memories to look back at, and so naturally I love the idea of class memory books. I created the memory book templates as I really wanted my students to reflect upon and record a variety of elements of their school life - some that they may not find interesting right now, but that will serve as a time capsule in years to come. 👉 Booklets available on my website in English & as Gaeilge.

1️⃣ Order a keyring kit (mine cost €6.90 from Amazon and had enough for 30 keyrings - shared in last image, you can usually get them in the likes of Mr Price too)

2️⃣ Create a design for each student with their name, an image that you associate with them (could be a favourite animal, book character, food, sport, etc), and three things that are awesome about them.

⭐ The template I created was on Canva and I can share it with you for free if you would like to use it. I know every second is like gold dust at this time of year 😅 Just comment KEYRING below and I will get it to you 😘 👇

I have been doing this lesson for a few years now inspired by the @cassie_stephenz 'How to draw a bubble print snorkeler selfie' video on YouTube.

Always a hit ✨

My favourite way to do the bubble printing after a few attempts:
Mixture = 1 btl blue food colouring, good squirt dish soap, 300mls water in a small bowl. Have students blow the bubbles through a straw and place their page over the bubbles section by section 🫧

1. Draw your portrait inspired by underwater photos and artwork. Use the video to support certain parts such as drawing snorkel shape etc, but leave as open as possible.
2. Trace over pencil with sharpie
3. Colour with crayon
4. Bubble print

Father's Day 💙 This is a lovely alternative to a standard father's day card - requires little materials and is nice and easy!

I found a few versions of these online, but just winged it instead of buying a template. If you would like the steps for this card just leave a comment below 🥰👇

✨ Always important: think about your class context to make sure it's appropriate to celebrate/draw attention to fathers day, some years it will be and some years it won't. Classrooms should celebrate all kinds of families and also need to support children who these days can be very difficult for.

Delighted to get my results this morning and have passed the first year of my Masters 🥳🙌

Going back to college to do a Masters was something I always wanted to do. I know many people continue straight from the BEd into a Masters now, but it wasn't really the 'done thing' when I was in college.

I have always been interested in the area of Gaeilge + Dyslexia, having taught in a Gaelscoil for years and having regularly come up against the "my child has been diagnosed with Dyslexia, should we move them to an English medium school?" question. It is always something I wanted to learn more about, as I never felt informed enough to answer that question.

And so, I chose the MEd in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) in DCU. The course thus far has really exceeded my expectations and has provided deep learning not only in the area of Dyslexia, but also in literacy instruction and intervention. It has been thought provoking, inspiring and will have a profound impact on how I meet the needs of learners in my future classrooms.

That said, it was a challenging year, and I will admit found it more difficult returning to academia than I thought I would. Nonetheless, I am thrilled to have passed the year, and while I will enjoy the few months 'off', I am looking forward to my second year and what it will bring!! 🥳🥳
