International Dot Day FREEBIE 🤩✨

This is a simple activity that you could use tomorrow as morning work, early finishers, homework, rainy lunchtime (hopefully not 🤞🏼) etc...

I have used it for the past few years, and the students always get really creative! It's a really simple idea - students use their imagination to turn the dots into whatever they like.

You will see lots of variations of this kind of activity floating around online 🥰 I have also popped these templates on my website so that I can share them with anyone who would like to use them. I have some with and without lines for text, in English & as Gaeilge, along with the sample if you want to show it (but I wouldn't 😅) .

📽️ Mé Féin videos 🤩

This is the idea I mentioned in my previous post.

📓 Students write their facts out first
🎬 Working in pairs or small groups student record the simple pointing video
💻 Using a built in editor on the device, an app or an online tool such as Canva, the students add the text to their video
🎙️ Depending on the app/device students might add music, or a voice-over reading their added text aloud
🎦 Collect all the videos and showcase to the class

📣🛑 Top Organisation Tip 👀👏

These art folders are such a storage godsend. Make them with your class in September, use them all year for art/project storage and send home in June. Keep in a big box at the back of the classroom or wherever you might have space!

So easy and simple - an A2 sheet of coloured card folded and stapled along the outside edges. Ask each student to write their names on an A4 pages and illustrate/decorate as they wish. Once done stick the A4 pages onto the front and voila ✨

🌈 This is a start-of-year favourite of mine ☁️✨

It's usually something I do as part of an SPHE / Wellbeing activity in the first week of school.

We start with a whole class brainstorm of positive adjectives and write all these words on the whiteboard. I encourage them to think of kind things they might say about their friends.

Then each pupil chooses 6 of these adjectives that the feel describe themselves 🥹 and write each one on a piece of coloured card. Then they add/colour their name on a cloud shape, cut it out and assemble. Some years I have printed the cloud/name templates and other years I have left them to it.

Lovely feel good lesson! 🌈❤️

⚠️ Unfortunately, a small batch of faulty planners made it through both production and quality checks before being shipped.

The issues identified include some planners with pages stuck together at the binding, and others where the binding is misaligned, causing pages to come loose.

While this has affected only a small number of the overall orders, I’m incredibly disappointed that any planner reached any customer in this condition. It is not representative of the quality I expect, nor the standard that I signed off on for this collection.

If you have received a faulty planner, please know that it will be replaced without question. Lettertec has set planners aside specifically to ensure replacements can be sent out as quickly as possible.

Please email Mary Louise at mlmurphy@lettertec.com with your order number, and a replacement planner will be on its way to you ASAP.

Early finisher packs 🗂️ Caption for details 👇 ✨

This system for early finishers worked REALLY well in my multigrade class but would work just as well in a non multigrade class!

Each class level had their own box with their early finisher packs.These could be taken and used without asking once their classwork and any extension activities had been completed. They left their work open and visible on the table for correction.

I didn't want work completion to be penalised with extra work, nor did I want something that would require extra corrections or assistance 😅 So, each pack included:

🗂️ ACTIVITY CHOICE BOARD
This set out their options and reminded them that any other outstanding work (written on a section of my whiteboard) had to be completed first.

Their choices were:
- Read their book
- Draw in their sketchpad
- Write in their free writing copy
- Take a STEM box
- Begin their ritten homework

🗂️ SKETCHPAD
We explored options for how we could use these as a whole class such as writing practice, illustrations, sketches, comics, mood boards, etc. They could do whatever they like really. These were purchased from @schoolbooks_ie for €1.50 each.

🗂️ FREE WRITING COPY
Again we explored options for this as a whole class, and I stuck some prompts onto the inside cover in case they need a bit of inspiration. These weren't corrected but some students chode to read or share with me or their classmates.

🗂️ OUTSTANDING WORK
If a pupil hadn't finished something earlier in the day/week it was placed by the student in their early finisher pack for completion whenever they got a chance.

📦 STEM BOXES
Each class level had 5 stem boxes each containing different materials and different task cards (sourced from @teachoutsidethebox on TPT). I changed this out during the year.

This system kept my early finishers challenged and creative, and on my end it was easily set up and is managed ✨

It's such a big, time-consuming job 🫠 but SUCH a relief once it's done! A craft knife and stapler definitely make the job a whole lot easier 🙏
